Avoiding Initiative Overload
Strategic Learning Solutions for Performance Success
“Change cannot be put on people. The best way to instill change is to do it with them. Create it with them.” — Lisa Bodell
I'll admit it – I get frustrated when I see another shiny new tool or technology get introduced into our work and life flows without a clear plan for how to fully leverage its transformative potential. As someone who works closely with clients on strategic initiatives, I always ask them one critical question: "What are you taking off your employees' plates to create bandwidth for this new capability?" You wouldn't believe the looks I get!
The reality is, we're all stretched thin these days, struggling to keep up with the latest corporate initiatives from the past 5 years, let alone find room to explore how a brand-new tool could revolutionize our workflows. But here's the thing – if we don't purposefully create that space for exploration and investigation, we'll never uncover the true impact these powerful technologies could have.
I truly believe that taking a people-first approach is key. We need to align our efforts to our core purpose as an organization, build new processes to support better ways of working, and critically, take antiquated processes off everyone's plates. When we do that, when we empower our people with the time and space to innovate, that's when the magic happens.
Happier, more productive, more engaged employees? Sign me up! But it all starts with being thoughtful and intentional about how we introduce new capabilities. The shiny objects will just keep coming, but if we lay the proper groundwork, we can unleash their full potential instead of treating them as another checkbox on an ever-growing to-do list.
