Every time I see AI used well by a leader, one thing stands out: the technology disappears, and judgment takes center stage. as they lead with intention deepening connections with their teammates.
A lot of my current work is centered on ways the different AI platforms and can help you in the flow work. AI can summarize meetings, draft messages, conduct analysis of spreadsheets, and provide an additional member of the team in brainstorming ideas.
But there are opportunities on how the best leaders are using AI right now especially in remote and hybrid environments.
AI as a Copilot, Not an Autopilot
The leaders I see moving forward aren’t asking, “What can AI do for me?” They’re asking, “Where do I need more space to think clearly?” They’re using AI as a copilot to handle the mechanical work so they can focus on:
Making better decisions with incomplete information
Having clearer, more human conversations
Creating alignment across distance and time zones
AI doesn’t replace leadership presence. It creates room for it.
Three Ways You Can Use This Today
If you’re leading people right now, here are a few small, practical ways to put this into action before the workday ends:
Before your next message or announcement, run it through AI and ask: “Where might this be confusing or misinterpreted by my team?” Then rewrite it in your own voice. Clarity is still your job.
After a meeting, use AI to summarize key points but take two minutes to add what wasn’t captured: the tension, the energy shift, the unresolved question. That’s leadership judgment.
At the end of the day, ask AI: “What patterns do you notice in my calendar or tasks this week?” Then decide, using your human capabilities, what needs to change or be focused on more deeply.
Notice the pattern here. AI supports the work. You still make the calls. But make the space to think out loud with your AI thought partner focused on your team and how you can support their performance, growth, and success.
What I’m Watching Closely
The real risk I see isn’t over‑reliance on AI. It’s leaders using AI to avoid the harder human moments such as feedback conversations, decision explanations, facing uncertainty. Teams don’t need perfect answers. They need visible thinking, they need shared conversations.
When leaders use AI well, it actually broadens and builds the scope of the conversation enabling you to be practiced, clearer, more intentional, and more human in your interactions, not less.
Where has AI helped you lead better and where has it created new tension or confusion? Share what you’re seeing. These conversations matter, especially as the lines between human judgment and machine support continue to blur.
I work with leaders and teams who want to use AI without losing trust, clarity, or humanity especially in remote and hybrid environments. If you’re navigating this shift and want a thinking partner, I’d be glad to help.
